Today, a man has been arrested for intentionally causing a fire at Lincoln County Hospital.
Patients and staff were evacuated from the hospital’s Accident and Emergency Department at around 3:00am this morning after a fire was discovered in a radiology room.
Lincolnshire Police have confirmed that while no one was hurt, the fire caused “extensive damage” to the department including, X-ray, CT and MRI scanners.
The trust is diverting ambulances to surrounding hospitals while emergency work is undertaken to make the department safe.
Fire investigators confirmed very quickly that the fire was a deliberate attempt to cause damage.
A 57-year-old man from the Sleaford area has now been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

Lincolnshire Police are now calling upon the public for information.
A statement reads, “We have launched an arson investigation following a deliberate fire which was set in the A&E department at Lincoln County Hospital.”
“Following a swift response by officers, a 57-year-old man from the Sleaford area has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and remains in police custody.
“We believe this to be an isolated incident and we will remain on scene and in the local area over the next few days while we make our enquiries.
“We would like to hear from anyone with phone or dashcam footage in and around the A&E department from between 2.40am and 3.15am, or anyone with any other information.”
