Morrisons wants to help support NHS workers through the winter.

One of the largest supermarket chains in the UK has made the decision to extend its discount scheme for NHS workers “indefinitely”.

NHS workers will continue to receive a 10% discount when shopping in Morrisons stores or online for the foreseeable future.

With hospitals again dealing with an increased number of coronavirus cases, NHS staff are supporting the country through the next stage of the pandemic – so the supermarket decided to return the favour.

The discount scheme was first introduced in April and the scheme now aims to support the 1.5 million NHS staff through the winter and possibly beyond.

To make sure NHS staff can get hold of the groceries they need, Morrisons also offer an NHS hour with the majority of stores opening an hourly early for healthcare workers.

Thank you.

Jayne McDonald, a care support worker from Manchester, told NursingNotes how important the discount was to her family. She said; “My husband lost his job in April and things have been hard ever since.

She added; “We spend the money we save on Christmas savings vouchers – so that as a family we can have the Christmas we need right now.”

David Potts, Morrisons Chief Executive said: “We want to continue to support all those in the National Health Service and show our appreciation for the fearless work they undertake daily.

“We hope alongside our other measures, shopping can be a little bit easier for our vital NHS staff.”

To benefit from the 10% discount staff need to present their NHS ID card in all Morrisons stores.

Online shoppers can register with the supermarkets NHS Club at https://my.morrisons.com/more/#/nhs to qualify for the discount.
