RCN calls on members to vote over motion of no-confidence

6 September 2018

The Royal College of Nursing has announced how you can vote in the Extraordinary General Meeting.

The Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) of the College is due to take place on Friday, September 28th at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre.

The EGM was called following a petition by 1,017 validated RCN members to discuss the communication of the 2018 NHS pay deal in England and the process surrounding the dissemination of information about it.

A vote of no confidence.

The signatories of the petition called for a vote of no confidence in the current leadership of the RCN and for RCN Council to stand down.  The wording of the resolution on which members will be invited to cast their votes is today announced as follows:

“We have no confidence in the current leadership of the Royal College of Nursing, and call on Council to stand down”.

You can read both the Proposers’ and Council statements for RCN EGM.

How can you vote?

RCN members will be sent an email this evening containing information about how to cast their votes.

Those attending the meeting will need to register to do so by Wednesday 19th September and will be able to vote in person at Birmingham Repertory Theatre, where the EGM will take place.

Those wishing to appoint a proxy to vote on their behalf will be able to nominate either the Chair of the meeting, or another member attending, to vote for them.

The voting process is being run by the independent organisation Electoral Reform Services (ERS) and the meeting will be live streamed via the RCN website.

External review.

The RCN will also publish shortly the first part of the external review by ERS of its processes around the communication of the pay deal.

While ERS will not complete its full review for some weeks, the College wishes to publish the interim findings as soon as possible so that they can be discussed at the EGM and provide a useful overview of what happened to help inform the vote.
