Student nurses from four London universities will be guaranteed an offer of employment at local NHS trust after qualifying.
The CapitalNurse initiative will ensure that, upon qualifying, student nurses will be offered employment at a local London NHS hospital and has been introduced with the aim of increasing staff retention rates.
CapitalNurse was initially started in 2015 by London's Chief Nurse and the Health Education England Regional Director and is jointly sponsored by Health Education England, NHS England and NHS Improvement.
Jobs will be advertised later this month for all final year student nurses from City University, the University of Hertfordshire, Middlesex University and London South Bank University across fifteen local NHS organisations where students will have completed placements.
Interviews are set to be held from the 5th of March onwards and the new positions will start between September and October 2018. Health Education England (HEE) says the interviews will not include tests and are instead based on values.
A spokesperson for NursingNotes.co.uk said;
"This is a great oporunity for students who wish to live and work in our capital city.
"The introduction of voluntary perceptorship standards will assist in the notoriously difficult transition from student nurse to registered nurse.
"We would like to see similar schemes roled out in other areas of the country".
