Theresa May has announced she has been formally asked to form a government and will remain as Prime Minister.
In the statement from Downing Street Theresa May said that the Conservative Party would work together with the Democratic Unionist Party in the ‘interests of the whole UK’ to form a 'stable' government.
The Conservatives have failed to secure an overall majority in the snap general election as Jeremy Corbyn defied predictions to record a sharp surge in Labour support.
Theresa May met with the Queen at 12:30pm today and announced shortly afterward that she has been asked to form a government.
It has been further clarified that this is not a formal coalition but an informal alliance.
